There are many classes that students want to take but can only accept a set amount of students. That is why there is serious competition during class registration day.
In order to help students out, Jeju-NU recently created a comprehensive, online pre-registration system. What makes computer pre-registration great is that students are no longer fumbling to search for specific classes during registration? As long as the students pre-register, they can apply to all their classes at a click of a button.
The online system is also used as a way for schools to study the demand of students for certain classes. For example, if a certain lecture or professor is exceeding student capacity, the school could then increase capacity or open up the same lecture on a different time and day.
However, during class registration day this semester, Jeju-NU’s Internet server suddenly went down, and several students complained about the log-in process being much slower than before. Others students stated that they even had to use their phones to enroll in classes this year.
According to one student, “I do not feel the need of pre-registration. It is the reason why the school server crashed and why so many students could not enroll in the classes they wanted.”
Jeju-NU’s Information Telecommunication Center (ITC) said they did not know about the problems with pre-registration this year since there were no complaints or reports from the students. The ITC also mentioned that sites can be down according to the specifications of one’s computer and the amount of internet traffic.
The ITC did comment that they noticed fewer students registering for classes on time this year compared to last year.
However, the ITC assured The Islander and all of its readers that now that they know about a problem, next semester the bug will be fixed and students should have no problem with pre-registration.
