Increase in inspections!

Students are left bewildered with the increased amount of unannounced dormitory inspections since the start of the new semester.
According to Jeju-NU regulations, students are forbidden to smoke and consume alcohol inside the dormitories. However, many complaints were made in the previous year when students noticed the smell of cigarettes lingering in the hallways and cigarette butts were found left outside in shared balconies and restrooms.

It is illegal to smoke within a 10 meter radius from public areas which includes Jeju-NU facilities and entrances. Those caught breaking the law must pay a fine of 100,000 won. For dormitory residents caught smoking in the dorms, they face possible evictions.

Smokers are not the only reason for increased inspections.

Excessive noise and the sound of drinking games heavily indicate that students are bringing alcohol inside their dorm rooms.

One student (who asked to remain anonymous) who lived in the dorms last year commented, “Late at night, I would hear drunk students next door screaming at one another. Usually one of them would end up throwing up in the shared bathrooms on the second floor.”

According to the dean of dormitory student’s affairs, students are given demerits for each time they are caught breaking dormitory rules.
