English Language Institute (ELI) is the English speaking and writing class of Jeju-NU that was established with the same curriculum as the ELI of George Mason University in the U.S. This class operates for 100 hours during the semester. It is carried out in the evening every weekday.

“The main purpose is to improve English,” Prof. Jenie Hahn said, “There are many students who want to study abroad as exchange students. However, some students face difficulty studying English which is why ELI is for them.”

Everyone has a chance to apply and the applicants will be divided into classes by their study achievements. Their study achievements are evaluated through English interviews and a writing test. The students can learn the vocabularies, the grammar, and writing skills also improve their English speaking skills with several classes that are divided into Core, Oral Communication and Speaking (OCS) and an Elective Class.

“ELI requires us to use only English during the class so that it provides us with the environment that is similar to foreign universities,” One of the ELI students said. “I am sure that our English skill is improving. Some students even take this class twice.”

Students can get more information about ELI by contacting the Center for International Affairs (064-754-2198) or go to (www://intl.jejunu.ac.kr/).
