1. What is MERS?

Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Cornavirus (MERS) is a viral respiratory disease and its first reported case in Korea occurred on May 20.

2. How did the Korean government respond?

The first case was diagnosed too late and so the disease spread fast with the possibility of infection still remaining.

3. What do Jeju-NU students think?

75.9% of students said that the biggest problem was the lack of government’s ability to cope with the situation. 9.9% of students that the media exaggerated situation too much and 6.6% responded by saying the infected patient’s carelessness was at fault.

Provocation from the North

1. What happened?

North Korea provoked South Korea with a landmine explosion so South Korea showing a strong response by broadcasting propaganda towards North through loudspeakers.

2. How did the Korean government respond?

President Park showed her most powerful reaction to North Korea but there is a need for sturdier plans against unpredictable action from the North.

3. What do Jeju-NU students think?

29.7% of students felt than intense response is needed for this situation but 19.8% said that the Korean government gave an appropriate response to the North. 16.5% pointed out that we have to be more careful about dealing with this issue in order to prevent the war.

For Comfort Woman

1. What happened?

Korea requires official apology to Japan about comfort women but they only showed ambiguous action, not a direct apology.

2. How did the Korean government respond?

Korea has continuously made an effort to get an official apology from Japan after it was found unconstitutional in Korea to not show effort in resolving the comfort woman issue back in 2011.

3. What do Jeju-NU students think?

26.4% of students felt that the government needs to appeal more strongly for an official apology from Japan. 23.1% said that more effort from the government is needed and 6.6% said we need to alert the world about comfort women through proper education.
