A major problem about the tranquility of the dormitories was pointed out.
Especially for those residing in the BTL dormitory, noise issues are a constant problem. Since BTL’s fitness rooms are available until 1 am, students such as Mandakhbayar Bal (Electrical Engineering, 3) can hear not only the chatter from outside but also the noise from the treadmill inside his room.
“That is why I am often disturbed whenever I do my homework, even in the evening,” Bal’s roommate, Gankhuyag Purevdelger added.
The BTL dormitory’s study room for girls is situated adjacent to the boy’s fitness room on the second floor and the girl’s fitness on the fourth floor. Students studying on the third floor have a hard time concentrating due to the noise from the fitness rooms. The study rooms are also nearby the noisy laundry rooms.
Another complaint is that many students can be heard around the dorms, even after 12 am.
According to Lee Hwa-Su (Physical Education, 3), “At least once a month, you can hear other people singing. At midnight, drunken students can be seen fighting outside the dorms.”
Regarding these complaints, Dong Shub-Shin (Social Studies Education, 3) shared his thoughts with The Islander.
“Living in a public place requires manners. However, most students are not accustomed to the social etiquette because at high school, they used to go straight from school to home which does not leave them much time to socialize. It is important to consider our etiquette because we live with strangers, forget the ‘I’m all right, Jack’ attitude.”
He also advised, “To resolve the situation, in my point, civic attitudes should be re-taught to foster civic education. Then we can disturb others less.”
The Islander has yet to hear from the school’s dormitory administration on the matter.
