The annual Seongsan Ilchulbong or Seongsan Sunrise Peak festival will be held on December 31 and January 1 at the Seongsan Sunrise Peak. The event is held at Jeju’s must see attraction where a spectacular moment can be observed when the first glimpse of sun enter into the horizon during the New Year.

Since 1994, the festival has become a popular event and attracts both natives and tourists.

On December 31, the Jinhon shaman ritual, a ceremony to lay to rest the departed souls, will be commemorated. The dawn of the New Year will be celebrated with bonfires and colorful performances where many people also pray and commit their expectations for the upcoming year.

Sunrise Peak is also reputed for its breathtaking scenery, with the peak created from a volcanic eruption. The steep trail will be a challenge but nevertheless the view will well worth the sweat.

Since a large crowd is regularly expected during the festival, early reservation for accommodation is recommended for the festival.
