- Campaign of ‘Soshin’
From October 31, the candidate team of the new Jeju-NU Student Council ‘Soshin’ took the stump with their campaign. They prepared some pamphlets and banners to introduce their name with election promises. There were seven sections of their promises and about 33 detail pledges such as Human Rights Department, education of labor law to students, and so on. In the campus, students were able to see easily their promotions. Students had little concern about them because, this year, also the election was held as the pros and cons about new candidate, in this case, ‘Soshin’.
However, students started to pay attention about this candidate with ‘noise problem’. The noise pollution of ‘Soshin’ in campus was started from morning to late evening every day in the campaign periods. With these problems, in Social Network Service(SNS) and websites, complaints about campaigns were getting bigger from other students. This made students focus on this election and the candidate’s promises. This situation made ‘Soshin’ and the election be in the spotlight.
2. ‘Soshin’ Policy Forums
In this election, many students concentrated the pledges of ‘Soshin’ as a result. For this situation, the policy forums became the topic of this election and campaign. The policy forums were held at the fourth building of College of Ocean Sciences. The 1st Policy Forum was held in November 2 with the students’ deep attentions. In this forum, many students including each college students’ representatives. Especially, in this event, there were many questions about the pledges to the candidate ‘Soshin’. However, students mainly criticized ‘lack of realistic and detailed ways’ to ‘Soshin’.
After the 1st forum, ‘Soshin’ and students had time for discussing the others in 2nd forum. The 2nd policy forum was held at the same place in November 9. Less students were participated, but still many questions remained. ‘Soshin’ accepted the feedbacks from 1st forum, so 2nd policy forum was more smooth atmosphere. Students gave some advice and question to the candidate team.
3. 50th Jeju-NU Student Council
Ending of the campaign promotion, the election was gone along in November 15. All of Jeju-NU students were able to vote this election during 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Each college’s student council helped students to voting accurately in the polling place. The Jeju-NU Aboard of Representatives managed and monitored entire procedure of this election. With the cooperation, voting for the election successfully closed.
After the voting was ended, the ballot count was run during the night. The turnout of voter was 63.20 percent, and the proposition of the ayes was 73.44 percent(4178/9001). As a result, ‘Soshin’ was elected as a new Student Council for 2018 Jeju-NU. ‘Soshin’ commented a gratitude greeting in the ‘Facebook’ and other public media.
