The fall semester is coming to an end, what do Jeju-NU students think of their 2017? The Islander asked some students about what they liked or disliked about school, their plans, and their messages for their juniors.

Mayu Kurogawa(Korean Language and Literature, 3) thinks that the best thing about her school life was that the professors really look out for and take good care of foreign students. Due to return to Japan this December and start preparations for employment, Mayu wishes to tell her juniors that even though it is hard to keep up with the lessons, everything will be fine as long as they try their best.

Flor de Maria(Political Science & Diplomacy, 3) notes the lack of inclusion of international students in the students’ council as well as various school activities. She hopes to see more efforts and plans in the integration of the local and international student body, in order to create a more inclusive environment in Jeju-NU, which is a part of Jeju, the Free International City.

Jeju-NU has a well-established support system for Chinese students due to their large population here, but other foreign students are often neglected. Miki Sumiyoshi (Faculty of Bioscience & Industry, 3) wishes that there would be more support for foreign students from countries other than China. Also, international students often face great difficulties in their studies because of the language barrier, and Miki suggests that there should be mentoring programs between local and international students within the different departments.

Lastly, Miki’s message sums up what most international students would agree, that studying abroad is a wonderful experience not just in understanding other cultures but in developing the self. We hope everyone has had a good year, and have a good December even if your year hasn’t been fantastic!
 

 Moon Soo-Yoon(Sociology, 1) 

Q1. What was the best thing about school life?

M: The best thing is to meet new people and learn a lot more and more when they meet new people. The tough thing was that it was a lot of trouble to meet people, but there was a lot of conflict. 

Q2. Advise to freshmen of next year.

M: I hope that you will write down the things you want to do in college and keep yourself in college and make a list of your own bucket lists. I wish I could live an active life based on the bucket list.

Oh Jong-Ho(Chinese Language and Literature, 4) 

Q3. What do you wish for Jeju-NU ?

O: Not only does each department pay for grades, but graduation exams, papers, certificates and diplomas are required. And I know that if I fail to graduate from school, I should pay for school every semester. However, for the reason, he went to school three or four years ago, and he failed to graduate because he missed graduation requirements and missed graduation requirements. It would be burdensome for a student to earn money without graduating and paying for it. I hope that these institutions disappear.

Q4. Advise your juniors in this school as a senior.

O: This society is highly recognized for its excellent understanding of 'study well'. So, nowadays, children tend to focus on studying without attending events. But I don't think I can get a good job and a good social life because I'm good at studying. Therefore, I hope that the younger generation will not only study but also participate in the event and meet many good people. So I think I will get a good job as well as my personal connections when I graduate or get a job later.
