After meaning tough midterm exams, university students welcome the upcoming festival in May. As I did in my own university life, students now are accustomed to managing bars and drinking at the university festival. Also, the festival is usually led by popular entertainers who demand huge amounts of money. But, this practice has been consistently criticized and selling liquor in universities has been forbidden since last year. This means that university festivals should change to be more appropriate for the aim of a university education.

Now, I will suggest several programs to improve the quality of the university festival as follows. First, students need to run booths that share the research of their department. For instance, students belonging to the Department of Food and Nutrition can run booths of food items that are created through cooperating with the local community. Students’ achievement through many scholarly researches can be introduced by these distinctive booths and local residents can enjoy the university festival as well. Secondly, photo zones will allow every student to know the beauty of university. At Kyonggi university, for example, a variety of photo zones are created such as LED Rose Garden in front of the school library, a speech bubble photo zone around a red brick wall, and a photo zone of paper flowers in an outdoor rest area. These kinds of photo zones enable students not only to know the hidden places in the university, but to promote the university through social network services (SNS).

Finally, outdoor movie screenings at the university are also recommended. Unlike casting popular entertainers who are paid generously, watching a movie with friends outside in the university will offer unforgettable memory at a reasonable price. It would be excellent value for money. Therefore, I would like to recommend that university students need to organize a wide range of programs for a better university festival. This would not only stimulate fresh ideas for a university festival but also offer far better value for money.
