My name is Hwang Hyo-Sin and I am the leader of the 1st Global Supporters English team, ‘Macarena’. I usually embody overall plans or gather opinions of our team members. As I am from Seoul, I used to live alone in Jeju Island. I understand what it feels like to be alone. I learned a lot from many international students during that time. Based on these experiences, I would like to help them and learn from them as well. International students must go into a two-week quarantine as soon as they arrive Jeju Island. After their quarantine, I helped them find their dormitory and also to open their bank accounts. I was able to meet many foreign students and communicate with them. That was the most impressive activity for me so far. I want to plan programs which are enjoyable to international students. I will also try to not forget my first resolution.

I am the agent of love and justice, Sailor Moon! But in my normal days I am José, from Mexico. As you might have guessed from my picture or from my evident non-Korean name, I am the representative of the English-speaking community of foreign students from our university within the Global Supporters! Which means that I try to voice the interest, wishes, or hopes from the international community. Moreover, being an extroverted person, I try to break the shell of the supporters and students in order to bond quickly, so as to make our group feel like a family. Being the youngest (even if I don’t look like it), I will always try to light up the room, asking weird questions or just trying to make people laugh. These skills help me while working in the Global Lounge (which anyone is welcome to visit anytime). You will always see me with a huge smile and cursing in Spanish! But always ready to help. What was my motivation when applying to Global Supporters? I think it was destiny and perfect timing, since, as weird as it sounds, I did not apply! By working in the Global Lounge (previously known as the English Café), I automatically got the job! How lucky can you get? Ha-ha. As a matter of fact, because of the curse that the world has at the moment, I spent five months inside my room without any human contact. I developed depression, anorexia, and anxiety. Despite not applying, when I got the opportunity, I knew that I must have kept it since this was the perfect opportunity to not let anyone go to what I went through. I would never want anyone to feel lonely, blue, or disappointed. I do not wish anyone to go through difficulties alone, as depression and sadness are not easy things to get over by yourself. Therefore, I want other students to never feel alone. I want them to feel at home, loved, protected, and taken care of, as those are things that I want for myself. And you get what you give! (or so they say) I want to keep helping other people. I want to make Jeju our home, and supporters a big family. I want to hug more people, I want everyone to get TOPIK level 3 and I want to, as ironic as it sounds, support more people, being emotionally or academically speaking. I hope that when people look back at their time in Jeju they would always cherish the memories they had here, either good or bad. If anyone ever needs someone to talk to, a hug, a shoulder to cry on, or even an ice cream, I will always be there!! Contact information: Email: rilatojm@gmail.com / Contact number: 010-6512-4952 / Kakao: rialto / Instagram: @rilatoorta

I do not have a specific or a fixed role but if I must say, I am the energizer. These days, I am preparing for a one-day class, which is held every Thursday. Other than that, I usually give life information to international students or hang out with them. I came from a different region, so I went through hard times adjusting or felt lonely. I wanted to be help to foreign students, thinking of the people who helped me overcome those days. I became friends with many people from many different countries and this is interesting because I feel like a ‘Global Insider’. Sometimes there are students who did not choose to come to Jeju Island. I feel proud every time when hear they say that it was a good thing to come here. For the rest of the Global Supporters activities, I want to make them happy. I also want to go to MT! (MT is abbreviation for ‘Membership Training’, and it is kind of a fun camp for one night and two days, which is one of Korean cultures)
