Jeju language is an endangered language which still holds many linguistic features of the Korean language from the 15th century. Recently, there have been efforts to preserve this valuable asset of Jeju by the Jeju National University Korean Language and Culture Center and the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Office of Education.

JNU Korean Language and Culture Center is conducting a Jeju language class for teenage students in Jeju Island since last year. The goal of the class is to spread the importance and value of Jeju language to teenage students, including ‘the characteristics of Jeju language’ and ‘Jeju language creation’, in order to provide various aspects of the dialect. The class is in eight schools on the island including Noheong Middle School, Jeju Girls High School, and more. 

In addition, the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Office of Education has published Jeju language learning material. The elementary level is about daily Jeju language with interesting pictures. The middle school level is about dialogues in Jeju language with five themes such as verb, adjective, proverb, vocabulary, onomatopoeic words, etc. 

Moreover, the Education Office conducted ‘Jeju Language Training for Teachers 2020,’ with forty participants who are teachers from kindergarten to high school.
