The College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT), also known as ‘Suneung’ in South Korea, is an annual exam taken on the Thursday of the second week in November. It is the final test for students in South Korea through which the effort of twelve years of studying comes to fruition. Students desperately hope to enter their dream university using the score of this exam. It covers five test subjects: Korean language, Math, English, and two more subjects that they chose among science or social studies. 

Every year, Suneung brings the whole country to a standstill. Silence prevails across the country – shops are shut, banks are closed, and even the stock market opens late. Most of the construction works halt, planes are grounded, and military training is ceased. Nervous parents spend the day at local Buddhist temples or Christian churches praying for their children.

This year, the Ministry of education has decided to postpone Suneung for two weeks from November 19th to December 3rd due to the COVID-19 crisis. Students must wear masks during the exam.

Also, the sneeze guard (which is the hard, transparent shield covering the desk in one direction) will be set up in front of the desk. However, this sneeze guard is becoming an issue among students. The main reason for this matter was that the sneeze guard takes up quite a large amount of space on the desk; the test papers stick out of the desk and students can be inconvenienced.
