On November 30th of last year, the launching ceremony of the ‘Hope 2021 Sharing Campaign’ was held in front of a large thermometer tower located in the outdoor plaza, east of Nohyung Tower in Jeju City. The launching ceremony was attended by the heads of organizations in the province including the governor, provincial council chairman, representatives of social welfare institutions, and volunteers.

The unveiling ceremony of the ‘Thermometer of Love Tower’ was also held at the same place. Every time one percent of the donation goal was collected, the temperature of tower rose one degree. Through this tower, residents in Jeju can see the funding status in real time. The Governor of Jeju Special SelfGoverning Province mentioned that there are a lot of neighbors who are really in trouble due to COVID-19. He hoped Jeju residents would show more spirit of sharing during the COVID-19 crisis.

The annual Hope Sharing C a m p a i g n i s c o n d u c t e d nationwide by Community Chest of Korea, a social welfare community fundraiser, to help neighbors in need, to give attention and love. In Jeju Island, the pledge drive is operated by the Jeju Special-Governing Province and the Jeju Community Chest of Korea. Under the slogan ‘Please Connect Our Hope through Sharing,’ the 62-day campaign will run from December 1st of last year to January 31st of this year. Considering the situation that all of the communities are suffering from the influence of COVID-19, compared to last year, the period is 11 days shorter and the charity goal is reduced by about 1 billion won. The collected sum will be used for emergency living and medical expenses for low-income people living on Jeju Island, elimination of blind spots in the welfare system, and employment support for young people.

To ensure smooth donating progress, several broadcasters and the Community Chest of Korea Jeju Branch prepared numerous methods to receive donations such as Automatic Response System, Text donation, Special account, QR code, etc. These methods are recommended, due to concerns about the spreading of COVID-19. In addition, participation is also possible through the Collection Boxes located at financial institutions, pharmacies, and community centers in all regions of Jeju.
