The results of a public opinion poll about the Jeju Second Airport construction was announced on February 19th. This poll was conducted by two institutions from February 15th to 17th. It has two different target groups: one was four thousand Jejuprovince residents and the other was one thousand Seongsan residents. As a result, over sixty percents of Jeju-province residents responded against. Similar percentage of Seongsan residents responded for. Jeju Special Self-Governing Province conveyed these results to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and was requested to report Jeju Province’s own opinion by March 10th

Therefore, Won Hee-Ryong, the governor of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, announced an official statement on March 10th. He said that in consideration of ‘for’ results of Seong-san residents, land acceptability for the second airport was secured. This can be interpreted as his willingness to actively push the Jeju second airport construction business. Also, he emphasized that this construction scale is so large that it needs direct administrative order from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the president. At the same time, he explained the reason why he did not reflect the poll results: a public opinion poll has no legal force or binding authority.
