Let's be leaders in the Free International City to lead the brighter future of Jeju.? This is the catch phrase of Cheju National University (CNU). As most of universities try to do their best to cultivate good and talented people, CNU should seek special, talented leaders to develop Jeju Island economy, as well as culturally.

What are the features of good leaders? Generally they have professional knowledge and creativity to increase productivity, so they know well their circumstances and characteristics. For this reason, the education system of Jeju should be regarded as more important for the success of the Free International City. In addition, CNU should develop various and innovative curricula and network to cope with the change of the business world. For example a curriculum for teaching the knowledge of Jeju culture, tradition and history; reinforcing specialties and majors to share with Jeju people, Jeju businesses and the Jeju Free International City system.

However, how many students of CNU know well present issues happening in society? According to the No.221 Cover Story of The Islander, only 8.4% of 400 respondents answered that they knew the issues well. The reason is that few subjects teach the tradition, culture and business of Jeju. Only 0.8 percent of liberal arts will be related with Jeju society in the first semester of the next year (2007), while lectures in English will be over 17%. There are not enough classes for regional education in CNU which emphasize the cultivation of confident leaders.

Education makes people, and the mother of education is college. Therefore, Cheju National University should provide people with information and knowledge to ensure the future of Jeju paradise. With CNU support, students can see and stand on their own two feet to compete with others from the main land. In conclusion, the goals of CNU education should be to focus on cultivating dedicated and skilled professionals who specialize in uncovering opportunities that create long-term value for Jeju Island.
