It is widely known that the ability to communicate in English has become an essential part of our life. Especially for the people who are seeking job opportunities. As a participant of these trends, I wanted to not only improve my English more efficiently in a short time but also experience a different culture. So, I got on a flight heading for Vancouver, Canada, which is known for its beautiful nature, Standard English, safety.

During eight months, I got great experience and made good memories that I wouldn't have experienced if I hadn't left for Canada. But it could have been a more successful time if I knew these tips earlier. That's why I wanted to give you all some useful tips when it comes to going abroad for studying.

First of all, it is recommended that you look into information about the country before you are planning to go such as weather condition, how to rent a room, culture, etc. I'm pretty sure that it would help you get used to living in other counties easily.

If you finish this step, I would advise you to live in a home-stay. For me, it gave me more opportunity to be in English-speaking surroundings and experience the real life by being around my home-stay family. All the kindness and love that I received from them literally brightened my Vancouver life. Otherwise, I would have been in a deep depression most of the time while I was there.

Third, take advantage of your time being abroad there! As long as you live abroad, you have a right to be a member of that society. There are lots of volunteer opportunities, events and festivals going on that you could take part in. From my experience having done a few voluntary services in Canada, I made lots of friends from all over the world. I was very impressed about the way they think and it changed my narrow mind and prejudice.

Lastly, be brave and be proud of yourself! Usually natives are kind and friendly, which means they are understanding and patient even though you speak English in a wrong way. Also, keep in mind that they don't actually care about the structure of grammar you are saying nor how fluently you speak. The more you try to speak, the more you learn obviously. Try to make an effort into making a relationship with foreigners by being brave.

Above all, I feel honored to share my feelings and experience with you. Obviously it's a great feeling since it reminds me of the time while I was there. I hope my tips about studying abroad help you set your goals clearly and effectively. I'll keep my fingers crossed for all of you.
