What is Olle?

‘olle’ means narrow path linking entrance of the house to road. As the meaning of it, almost every road is so narrow that only a person or two people can walk together. This road shows hidden scenery in Jeju, which has not be seen on the web page or poster. After the opening of olle 1st course on 2007, 20 courses are made so far, covering the coastline of Jeju.

The symbol of Jeju is ‘Gansea’, a blue horse that reflect the spirit of Jeju Olle. Like a horse Gansea which walks slowly, we could walk along the road slowly and relax.

For olle beginner, here are some tips for walking olle trail

Items recommended for Olle walkers

1.     Sun block, broad-brimmed hat.

Bring sun block in your backpack. Because the effect of sun block goes for about three hours, you need to apply sun block repeatedly to protect your skin.

To avoid your sun burn, sun block is not enough. Hat would help you to protect your skin more effectively. You have to keep in mind that hat has to be resistant to Jeju's strong wind blows from the coast.

2.     Water bottle, bottle ring

While walking, you need to replace your moisture over and over again. So it is good to bring water bottle.

Every time you drink water, it is annoying to pick the bottle from your backpack. Holding water bottle in your hands also seems uncomfortable while walking. There is a ring to hold a bottle that can be attached to the backpack. This ring makes you comfortable to take water bottle and drink any time you want to.

3.     SOS terminal

For the people who worry about the safety, Jeju Olle equipped SOS terminal. Once you push the button, the data automatically transfer to the police office so it is easy to know where you are.

Things that you have to keep in mind while walking

1.     Don’t walk too hard from the start of olle route.

2.     Keep an eye on signs

While walking, you can find signs. There are three kinds of signs. Horses called ‘Gansae’, arrows and ribbons. These signs will let you know if you are going right direction or not. Arrows and ribbons have two colors, blue and orange. Blue color means right direction of the road, and orange color means reversed direction of it.

3.     Take off your socks!

If you feels like your foot are getting hot, take off your socks and relax your foot. The fresh air form the nature makes your foot to breathe.
