The number of events planned by university students is evidently growing these days. The Korea Full Moon Festival (KFMF) is a recent representative one that actually 2nd HALO students plan and direct. They have met about three times a month to discuss better ways to run the festival. During the Ara Daedong Festival, they opened a booth for promotion and sold the tickets for the festival.
The cherry blossom festival by Re-Earth can be a good precedent. It was designed to awaken environmental awareness to students. One of the students of Re-Earth, Jeon Ho-Kwang (Veterinary Medicine, 3) said, ‘Promoting was the hardest work for us since it was the first festival we have planned. Our goal was to get students to encounter environmental issues easily, so we put much effort on attracting participation from students’.
Besides the festival, there is a lecture named ‘Jae Dae Ro’ which is also produced by students. The leader of 'Jae-Dae-Ro' said, There are words that I usually say, ‘develop ourselves and enhance self-respect,’” and he added, “It means, if you create something on your own, you can trust yourself. Also you can be proud of yourself and this attitude will extend your perspective to a wide range in the world, out of Jeju and out of Korea.”
It seems that the university students in Jeju are becoming more independent and having made self-initiative. The future of students‘ culture in Jeju is promising.
