The amount of scholarship Jeju-NU has provided to students this year is more than half of their tuition.

One student is approximately given 1,030,000 won as scholarship, which is about 54.9 % of the school tuition, considering that the average tuition for this semester is about 1,890,000 won per student.

The reason behind this increase of scholarship is that the school obtained more financial support from the government than last year by 3.6 billion. Also the donation from outside organizations and development fund took a partial role.

When this news was released, most of the school students were delighted about it. They also felt that the burden for tuition has been decreased because of the fact that many received the school’s scholarship somehow and that the tuition is about half of other private universities.

However, some are skeptical whether every student can gain the benefit of increasing scholarship.

A Sophomore from Tourism Management department, Ms. Shin, stated, “it is good that a lot of scholarship can be delivered to us as students, but I think a lot of students, especially freshmen and sophomores, do not know what kinds of scholarships exist and how to get them.”
