From the 2014 Spring Semester, Jeju-NU students can take a course integrating tourism and IT software.
This course is made as a result of a government project, which encourages universities to foster students who study both science and humanities.
For the government project, three universities have been chosen, including Seoul National University, Gangwon National University as well as Jeju-NU.
Prof. Kwan Hoon, who is in charge of this major said, “Imagine that you want to apply navigation on bicycles for tourists in Jeju, you need not only the idea but also knowledge of the IT process.”
And he continued, “In the tourism field, the gap between an idea and making it a reality is really wide, for the idea provider and software maker are almost always different. If students can get both humastic and scientific understanding, the gap will narrow.”
Thirty students who participate in the course will take IT course and tourism course at the same time. Some programs will also provide actual job experience to prepare students for jobs right after their graduation.
The briefing session of the course will be held in late January followed by the application process.
