New Year’s greeting
My Fellow Jeju-NU! New Year of ‘Hopeful Gap-O 2014’ is coming. May everyone in Jeju-NU be blessed with health and happiness.
I wish this year to be a year of prosperity as a brand-name university, with the 62th school opening anniversary. Last year, thanks to the Jeju-NU member’s efforts and passions, Jeju-NU could obtain good results though the continuing global economic recession and in the uncertainties.
Jeju-NU won 2 nd grade in ‘reginal based National University’ and 6 th grade in 22 of National Universities in Korea, announced by the Ministry of Education. These results are great value that Jeju-NU made those outcomes though Jeju has inadequate industrial sturctures and Jeju-NU had hardship in ‘mis-match to meet the demand of students’.
Jeju-NU was selected as Global Teacher’s University, so the graduate students could go abroad as teachers.
Furthermore, Jeju-NU also received the credits for capability and values. University’s global position also increased.
Professors’ research result was successful.
Success in cloning a healthy calf from a dead Jeju-cow and those studies took attention nationally and internationally. Also, from 2010 to 2012, Jeju-NU’s professors’ record of research papers increased.
These were due to the dedication and passions of Jeju-NU members who love and who made efforts for Jeju-NU. I express great gratitute to faculty and staff members.

This year, surrounding domestic and outer environments are expected to have hard tasks. Our university’s urgent problem is ‘University Structure Reform’.
Government of Park made level of 5 in whole nationwide universities. Except for the 1 best level, other 4 leveled universities should reduce the number of capacity. Especially, Level 4 ‘insufficiency’ and 5 ‘extremely insufficiency’ should lessen the capacity number drastically. Moreover, Level 4 and 5 would get limits in receiving National Scholarship Ⅱ and education loan.
Jeju-NU will face new change and hard challenges. Competitions with universities will be unlimited and social demand of university innovation will be heightened.
My Fellow Jeju-NU!
We should crave for development through changes, instead of being afraid. Just maintaining the status, settling in the authority of ivory-tower do not secure our future. Do not afraid of changes. To make our efforts to the success, we need strong will to success. Settling in the status with fear of failing, we will have no future. Overcome the fear of failure and greet the New Year with great aspirations.

On Nov, 2013 there was an election of University President. I feel sorry for the confliction, which happened between candidates due to some inadequate candidate selection regulations.
Though we were temporarily divided on account of the contest, now we should be ‘one’ again, to cut through the waves. We are one group.
Many thanks and sorry to the four candidates who sincerely thought about the development of our university. I will accept with four of professor’s noble meanings and policies that suggested, and will do more efforts for the development of university.
My term of 8 th president only left a month and two weeks. I hope you to cooperate with me, to finish the policies I promoted.
I request encouragement and cooperation, I wish the New Year to be companied with every member’s will and passion.
