Do you know about the place called "Helicon Mountain" in Greek mythology? The name of the mountain, "Helicon," is the name of the annual academic festival presented by the Department of English Language and Literature at JNU. So, what is the connection between the Greek mythical "Helicon Mountain" and the academic festival “Helicon?” The naming of the academic festival has a deep meaning. In Greek mythology, the "Helicon Mountain" was considered a source of endless artistic inspiration for humans who sought beauty and truth.

"Helicon," was held on the 23rd, of last month. The 40th Helicon finally took place at Ara Muse Hall and was largely divided into two parts, the musical and pop song contest. It was extremely special because it has been brought back to life after three years due to the COVID-19 situation. Helicon seemed to wither for a while after the 39th Helicon event in 2019. However, there was a strong movement to revive it, centering on "Re:born," the student council of the department.

Q. Why did you decide to revive it since the process of preparing for the event is so long and difficult?

A. Of course, I know it’s difficult. I just wanted to let the students know that Helicon has a very long and valuable history.

Q. What was your aspiration or image you wanted to show through Helicon?

A. It’s a proud thing to show the result of my effort to others. Through the constant efforts of our students, I wanted to deliver inspiration and fun to the audience. In addition, I wanted to inform many people that our department is not simply a place to learn literature and language, but a highly active and creative place. Also, I hope it was a good chance to let many people know how much our students are well-rounded.
