Since the information age, the readers of the paper news version have been steadily decreasing and most young people don’t read the news; neither the paper nor the internet version. In this situation, English newspapers are also in need of a plan to change. With the intention of finding a perspective on this issue, The Islander decided to interview sociology professor, Koh Sung-Man about the English newspaper’s challenges and what measures can be taken to resolve the obstacles. He expressed worry over the following situations. The English newspaper's purpose is to inform foreign students of the events at Jeju National University and Jeju but the number of English newspaper readers is decreasing every year.

Also, he recalled his past as a student reporter when he was a student at JNU. "At that time, in the 90s, there were very few media companies in Jeju and student journalists took on the role of letting more people know about the news by highlighting them again. He further commented that the problems of English newspapers were that there is “no direct communication between the newspaper and the reader, a lack of efficiency in delivery."

He finished the interview by saying that there is no quick fix for the root of the problem.

However, he also added that he would like to develop further into this conundrum and find a solution to the problems of Jeju National University's English newspaper.
