Last October, I had the most wonderful experience in my campus life. It was none other than being a part of 'Jerami', the student ambassadors of Jeju National University. First of all, 'Jerami' is a word that combines Jeju Island's language, 'the best, very amazing' with the Chinese character 'beauty,' meaning “very beautiful.” Once a student becomes a Jerami, they become the face of JNU for a year and participate in various university promotional activities, such as planning events to promote JNU, participating in the production of university promotional materials, and hosting admission information sessions for high school students. I spent a fantastic time with my Jerami friends in this glorious role. There were many things that I have done as a Jerami, and among them, the most memorable event was the admission information session. An admission information session is an event that invites high school students to JNU after the Korean SAT to inform them of our universities and application. Being a role model to someone was a real honor in my life, so I remember that moment when I was in my uniform and the high school students, who were still filled with fantasies about the university, looked at me enviously. In addition, I will never forget the times when I struggled to make promotional videos for JNU every month, and the moments when I walked around the school on a campus tour on a hot summer day, too. After I spent a year as a Jerami, there was one thing that made me sad. Many students do not know about the existence of ambassadors, Jerami even now. Often, they post questions about "what do the ambassadors do for our university?" on 'Everytime,' the school community board. I think the ambassadors are like swans kicking hard under the water, even though they look elegant on the water. They are dedicated to our university, such as having meetings almost every week for preparing promotions, arriving at the office early in the morning to participate in a campus tour, and taking part in promotional shoots every month. They look cool on the outside, but there's a lot of work to be expected of them to do. Therefore, I want to let JNU students know that they’re doing a lot more than what appears on the surface. Last October, the 20th ambassadors began their activities as Jeramis. I look forward to the day that Jeramis will be acknowledged as full representatives of JNU.
