During last year’s winter vacation period, dormitory #4 was not usable for JNU students; on the contrary, it was only open to exchange students from other universities. This resulted in various inconveniences. Since dormitory assignments are made on an annual basis, students needed to leave their rooms, move to another building and then return to their original room after the vacations were finished, causing multiple inconveniences.

Moreover, there was a significant gap between check-out and check-in times, where students had to wait for about three hours outside the dormitory with all their belongings. This situation was exacerbated by severe snowfall during last year's check-out period, leading to flight cancellations and further inconveniences for students.

To address these issues, it is imperative for JNU to improve the procedures related to dormitory availability. Fortunately, in the upcoming summer term, dormitory #4 will be open to JNU students as well. This change will alleviate the inconvenience of having to move to different dormitories and allow students to stay in the same place throughout consecutive periods, including the summer term. Even so, adjusting the check-in time to be earlier and implementing a more flexible residency policy will facilitate a smoother transition between dormitories, reducing waiting periods and streamlining the process.

Another issue is the location of dormitory #4, which is adjacent to a road, resulting in excessive noise and disruptions caused by construction activities. To mitigate these problems, improving soundproofing facilities and scheduling construction work during less disruptive hours can create a more peaceful and conducive environment for students.

Additionally, the lack of clearly designated smoking areas has led to the infiltration of cigarette smoke into the dormitory rooms. It is important to establish proper smoking zones in appropriate locations to contain and minimize the impact of cigarette smoke, ensuring a healthier and more pleasant living environment for all dormitory residents.
