From May 23 to 25, the JNU Festival was held. The festival operated booths where people could experience various things until 6 p.m. and invited several singers to perform at night. These singers ranging from being famous to emerging ones, entertained the audience respectively for three nights that aroused students' excitement, and even outsiders were able to watch their acts.

However, the risk of crowd crushes that can occur in these kind of situations should be well noted. This is because crowd crushes can occur as excited spectators move forward without control. Many audiences who watched the performances were too close in proximity to each other, and some were even seen climbing on other people’s shoulders, demonstrating a dangerous level of lack of safety awareness.

Some of the students who were among the audience said they felt the force of pushing from behind and that it was very difficult to get up if they tripped or fell down. Bringing to mind the previous Itaewon accident, this could easily have developed into a disaster. Fortunately, the Harmony Student Association prepared an emergency manual in advance for prompt action in the event of a crowd crush, and controlled the festival by being well-acquainted with first aid such as CPR.

Safety staffs were stationed in the stand closest to the stage to control the level of overcrowding. In addition, the MC constantly mentioned the risk of overcrowding and alerted the audience.

In order to retain a pleasant memory of college life, it is important to recognize the risk of crowd crushes and come up with effective countermeasures.
