JNU is implementing a 1,000 won breakfast program to ease students' financial burdens and maintain proper eating habits. The program aims to provide fresh and diverse nutrients to students and at the same time increase the satisfaction of students who use the meal facilities in schools.

This breakfast program is a great help in relieving students of the burden of food expenses. Instead of using expensive outside restaurants or delivery food, the ability to enjoy nutritious meals at low prices at school cafeterias provides students with great economic benefits. In addition, it emphasizes the importance of breakfast and encourages students to practice proper eating habits in school life.

The 1,000 won breakfast support project started back in 2017 to provide breakfast for 1,000 won to college students who do not eat breakfast well, and through this, spread a rice consumption culture. Currently, the project – conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs – functions in a specific way in which students only need to pay 1,000 won for a breakfast worth between 4,000 to 5,000 won: The remaining expenses would be covered by the central government – that covers 1,000 won per meal – and the local government of Jeju Island – that provides 2,000 won per meal.

This would lead to a reduction of students' food expenses as well as the lessening of the financial burden while attending university. It would ultimately mean a lot for students in the current era of high prices and students from three different universities in the province will be able to eat a quality breakfast at school cafeterias for a really cheap price.
