JNU's recruitment process can be divided into A-type, which is mainly based on grades, and B-type, which requires documents, grades, and interviews. The representative subtypes of the A-type are general student examination and local talent examination, and the representative subtype of the B-type is general student examination.

The following are the admission results of JNU in 2023. There is no significant change in the number of recruits in Type A and Type B, and the number of applicants in the A-general student examination moved to the A-local talent examination, which is due to the geographical characteristics of Jeju Island.

Applicants from outside of Jeju who are planning to apply for the 2024 admissions should anticipate a slight increase in competition due to the reduced number of seats. JNU ranks last among the nine local hub and public universities for the 2024 admissions. JNU has a competitive ratio of 4.57 to 1, while the average ratio for the nine universities is 7.90 to 1.

The freshmen’s perceptions of JNU are also changing. Due to the island's remote location, students from outside of Jeju are still reluctant to come here. Jeju National University's medical, dental, and veterinary schools, as well as the popular liberal arts majors of journalism and public relations, geography education and social education schools remain popular. However, what’s clear is that given the dwindling number of admissions, JNU needs to come up with more concrete solutions to resolve the situation.
