The Jeju People's Wind Orchestra (referred to as the Wind Orchestra) performed at the Tamna Cultural Festival on October 9. Music director and conductor Hong Jeong-Do led the audience in singing before the performance to ensure harmony between the orchestra and the audience. Before the wind orchestra was founded, Hong was a member of the Jeju Girls' Middle School Orchestra and the Jeju Teachers' Orchestra and has led several orchestras together. "When I was thinking about how I could do something meaningful with my students who could already play instruments, I suggested that we create an orchestra of people who learn instruments as a hobby," Hong said, explaining how the wind orchestra came about. Wind orchestras, which are largely composed of wind instruments that are 'blown in' by mouth, have a narrow range of genres that they can play, so when choosing songs for performances, they select songs that are appropriate for the members and songs that the audience can enjoy. They are trying to create a concert "of the people, for the people, and by the people”. The members said that they started this as a hobby, but even though they are not professionals, they participate with the hope that they will improve steadily. When they invited the audience, they said that they would like to be a team proud of themselves, and have the attitude that they will make the first effort and encourage their colleagues. The wind orchestra is always looking for new members. The monthly membership fee is 50,000 won, and they practice for two hours every Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m.. The recruitment targets are Jeju residents over the age of 18, and the recruitment fields are woodwind, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, brass, horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, and tuba.
