The '2023 Commentator Jeju Language Training', hosted by JNU's Institute of Korean Language and Culture and supported by the Jeju Province, concluded successfully on October 19th. The fifth edition of the '2023 Commentator Jeju Language Training' began in 2019 and was held for Jeju's cultural tourism commentators until 2020. Starting in 2021, the program was expanded to include not only cultural tourism interpreters but also residents interested in the Jeju language. The students who attended the 2023 Jeju language training included cultural tourism interpreters, general citizens, and tourist guides.

The training started on August 21st and was held twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays until October 19th. Experts in Jeju-related fields were invited to give a total of 15 lectures on Jeju's culture, history, and language, 11 face-to-face and 4 non-face-to-face, and one field trip was held. In the case of the field trip, many students showed high satisfaction and had a chance to explore the Jeju Chilmuridang Yeongyeong Lantern Hall. A total of 42 participants applied for the course, and 24 participants with a 70% attendance rate received certificates, showing a high participation rate.

At the completion ceremony on October 19th, the students said that they were very satisfied with the '2023 Commentator Jeju Language Training'. According to their opinions, the commentator Jeju language training was useful for understanding the Jeju language and the culture and history of the Jeju region rather than focusing on the commentary process, and for those who are working as commentators, the understanding of the Jeju language has enabled them to provide in-depth commentary when commentating for actual tourists.

The course is designed to help raise awareness of the Jeju language and the Jeju region, but it is not a course to train commentators. However, it was a course that could be useful for jobs that require an understanding of the Jeju region, such as tour guides and commentators. Many of the students showed anticipation for future lectures, so there is a need for a course that can keep them engaged.
