Jeju Province Development Corporation (JPDC), which produces and sells Samdasoo, has expanded its ‘compensatory recyclables collecting machine’ business into Jeju city. The corporation has carried out the business with Seogwipo-si and incorporated association Jejuolle since last year September.

The three institutes installed the compensatory machines in major tourist sites such as Columnar Joint and Jeongbang Falls, to reduce waste thoughtlessly thrown away. Pilot project group conducted an intensive public relations (PR) campaign during the peak season of Jeju tourism. The result was positive – about 6,000 people joined recyclable trash separation during 11 months. 

Based on the pilot project, JPDC decided to expand the business from the second half of this year. In September, the compensatory devices were installed at the Jeju airport, Jeju-si Nonghyup Hanaro Mart, and JNU campus. All three places have large numbers of floating population, mostly of tourists and residents, and a lot of recyclable waste is discharged in the places. Therefore, the eco-friendly machines are expected to bring positive changes regarding garbage.

You can see and use the new compensatory machines at the arrival hall on the third floor of Jeju international airport, the entrance of Nonghyup Hanaro Mart Jeju branch and Nohyung branch, and the Student Union Hall of JNU.
