Jeju Special Self-Governing Province enforced rules for social distancing after the outbreak of cluster infections related to “Rooftop Garden”, a guest house located in Namwoneup, Seogwipo-si.

A Guest House is a low-cost sociable lodging where travelers can rent a bed (usually a bunk bed in a dormitory) for a short period of time. Since Jeju Island is a destination for many tourists seeking natural resources and beautiful beaches throughout all the seasons, Guest Houses and their parties are common in Jeju. Parties are held by the owner of the guest houses and any guests can participate in this party. They eat dinner and have drinks with new people.

Recently, however, this party made citizens in Jeju feel tense about infection of Corona Virus. The first confirmed case (36th) was the owner of the guest house. It is assumed that he caught virus when he visited Seoul, which was three days before the symptoms came out. The next confirmed case (37th) was a staff of the guest house. Soon, the tests were conducted toward guests who went back to their home and people who had close contact with them. Unfortunately, several people from various regions tested positive for the virus, which heightened the risk of nationwide spread of the COVID-19.
