‘Tamnaneunjeon’ is Jeju’s local currency that can only be used in affiliated stores on Jeju to prevent regional funds from outflowing and to invigorate the local economy by promoting consumers to consume in the local area. ‘Tamna’ is the name of the ancient Jeju Island. It has both card and paper money types so consumers can choose depending on their needs.

There are some benefits of using Tamnaneunjeon. The card users can receive 10 percent incentives when putting money into their cards. Not only the card users but paper money users can also get a 10 percent discount right after purchasing a gift card. In addition, at the year-end tax adjustment, consumers can benefit from a 30 percent deduction. But the use of this card is limited to traditional markets and designated stores.

Many people are confused about whether only Jeju residents can use the local currency – the fact is that people over age 14 who have their own bank account can register and use it. For foreigners only residents with an ARC (certificate of alien registration) can receive the card.
