JNU has welcomed almost 150 international students this semester: from students of the Korean Language Program, to exchange students, as well as the ones that have already been studying here in both undergraduate and graduate programs. This is the highest number of foreign students registered since the Covid-19 pandemic stated back in January of 2020.

The Global Supporters are a group of Korean and international students whose main purpose is aiding international students by providing assistance to properly introduce them to life on campus and in Korea. This is done through various events that cover elements from Korean Culture, Jeju lifestyle, and Academic Assistance.

With the first group of Global Supporters ending activities successfully in January of this year, the second edition of this program would bring changes that improve over the same foundation. Having learned from previous experiences, the second edition of the Global Supporters has 10 Korean students and 3 International Students from China, Kyrgyzstan, and Nepal, respectively.

From the beginning of their activities in July, the Global Supporters have organized  different events during the summer holidays to make themselves known among international students. Their first event was a Korean food cooking program carried out both online and offline. This was followed by a trip to Udo, where students were able to experience cycling and horse-riding. Finally, they are currently carrying out campus tours for the new students that have been arriving over the past few months.

Regarding future plans, they have stated that they are planning to organize events that help foreigners get to know each other better, as well as to socialize with fellow Korean students. Additionally, they are planning on giving international students support to let them balance work-study life, through lifestyle classes and other activities. The Islander staff wishes nothing but the best for these new Global Supporters on their journey ahead!
