On September 20, two movies based on Jeju life, Miracle and Everglow were invited to the Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival (YIFF) in Hokkaido, Japan for the first time according to Jeju province. These two movies were supported by the Jeju Film & Culture Industry Promotion Agency.

The movie Miracle, directed by Lee Jang-Hoon, is about two main characters feeling both happiness and sadness while experiencing a life of poverty in Jeju Island mesmerized by the beautiful landscape of Jeju. So JangMoon, who produced the movie Everglow, is a director who makes documentary films as well as movies. Everglow captured the realistic features of Jeju haenyeos’ life. This movie covered not only common features of haenyeo such as collecting seafood under the water but also a little bit of Jeju 4∙3 incident and Jeju culture.

YIFF is Japan’s representative film festival along with Tokyo’s International Fantastic Film Festival. Being invited to the YIFF means that the movie about Jeju will be shown on a worldwide stage and it will be a great chance to promote and draw interest in Jeju’s culture.
