The lack of awareness in regard to the proper concept of peace makes people look away from a procedure that needs as much attention and collaboration as possible. To address this problematic mindset, and to further deepen the connection that the JNU community has, the Department of Political Science and Diplomacy has constructed different programs aimed to capture student’s attention and to make them join the process of peace through small steps.

The first activity, which is taking place on the 19th of November, is JNU’s Model of United Nations (JMUN). These events are simulations of the different sessions carried out by UN’s organizations – such as the General Assembly – that address topics of international urgency. During the 14th edition of the JMUN, students are going to discuss the international cooperation on democracy and human rights abuses by Myanmar’s Military. The resolutions achieved during this debate are going to be sent to the UN´s headquarters. While applications are closed now, students from any major are encouraged to participate in next year’s JMUN.

The second program is JNU’s Unification and Peace Academy. As its name indicates, this is an academy made up of five lectures that engage in the process of Peace building and Unification in the Korean Peninsula. Each session is focused on a particular point of view: from understanding how feasible it is to achieve unification taking into account natural resources and ecological problems, to comparing the current situation of the Korean Peninsula to the one that Germany experienced when it was divided. For more information about how to join, contact unipeace01@gmail. com.
