Setting foot on Jeju Island has always been highlighted as an activity for healing, rejuvenating, and disconnecting from the pressures of the modern world. It is no wonder that Jeju has been officially declared as an ‘Island of World Peace’ by the Central Government back in 2005 to further promote this mellow image nationally and internationally. However, this charming facade hides the centuries of oppression, suffering, and injustice that have kept being ignored due to a general lack of awareness and interest on giving this issue proper closure.

For four continuous years, a group of students from JNU and other universities in Jeju have formed Camellia Supporters, engaging in activities that promote the proper remembrance of the 4•3 Incident. This year, the 4th generation of Camellia Supporters has participated in various forums, such as the 16th Jeju Forum and the 1st Asia-Pacific Young Leaders Forum, as well as in different activities and lectures in JNU. But what sets the 4th generation of Camellia Supporters apart from others is the inclusion of an international student as the representative of the group. As such, different efforts have been made to make foreigners interested in the Jeju Uprising and the tragic history surrounding it.

For their final activity, the supporters prepared a workshop that took place on the 2nd and 3rd of December, tailored at international students to introduce them the 4•3 Incident. During the workshop, 24 international students and 20 Korean students will visit the 4•3 Peace Park, as well as important locations where massacres took place. Lectures in English will be provided for the international students, including a variety of topics such as the possibility of Korean Unification and Peace on the Korean Peninsula, the German unification, and, of course, the tragic history of Jeju Island.
