Known as the economic capital of China, Shanghai has been the center of international financial transactions for decades. In the beginning of 2022, Shanghai residents traveled around the city without any worries about COVID-19. People stopped wearing masks, vaccination rates were going up, and life seemed to go back to the way it used to be. The city quarantine isn’t only a surprise to the global community, but it was also a shock to the residents as well. With most countries loosening up their COVID-19 restrictions, China is still in the middle of a chaos.

32 years old resident living in Puxi province, Mr. Park and his family are required to do self-COVID-19 test four times a day. The Parks have been doing this for more than two weeks with little food to survive. Though surprisingly, this procedure varies from province to province. Some areas have less strict procedure. Ms. Peng, born and raised Shanghai, fortunately had enough food stored before quarantine started. She said, “I am grateful for the volunteers who have been helping out in the community”.
