▲ The discussion, which focused on the topic 'how to use Casa del Agua in an feective way' was sivided into two parts
On Sept. 6, a discussion about Casa del Agua took place at the College of Engineering 4. The gallery Casa del Agua, which is located in the Jungmun tourism complex, is made by the famous Mexican architect Ricardo Legorreta. He is famous for his Regionalism Architecture and got a prize in UIA (Union International des Architectes).

The work of the worldwide master, Casa del Agua, includes simple design, strong color, revealing his own style. Seogwipo authorities forced removal of this building because Casa del Agua is temporary building and is in 35m of the shore. To the authorities' response, the professor of Jeju-Nu, Kim Hyung-Joon (architecture) held a discussion with Jeju-NU university students.

The discussion, which focused on the topic ‘how to use Casa del Agua in an effective way’ was divided into two parts. In the first part, three students who represent the Department of Architecture had a presentation with different views on the removal of Casa del Agua. Students Jung So-Hee (Architecture, 3) said, “We should not make Casa del Agua a similar situation to the old building of Jeju-NU, which was removed not considering the value of the building.”

Ko June-Seok (Architecture, 3) said that ignoring the regionalism reflected on Casa del Agua is unmatched with the goal of Jeju to be globalized. Student Lee Myung-Beom (Architecture, 3) said, “There are some cases that government allows exceptions in building. Casa del Agua is a highly valued architect, so authorities should acknowledge the exception. If Casa del Agua remains untouched, there will be many masters who visit Jeju to build their masterpieces. The idea of ‘how to use Casa del Agua effectively’ was also discussed. One said lending the building for the use of wedding ceremonies or seminars as one way. Making a tour course of renowned architects' buildings in Jeju and making a memorial hall for the relationship with Mexico were also discussed.

In the second part of the discussion, students had a time talk about the presentation.

Kim Hyung-Joon (Professor of Architecture), who led the discussion, said “through this discussion, I found out that students have unique ideas of this problem. I think the older generation should listen to the voice of the young.” And he added, “If needed, I'm going to make this chance again to listen to other's opinions.
