The Jeju-NU Dept. of Computational Statistics (Lee Bong-Kyu, Chairman, photograph) gained a top percentile ranking (top 2.28%) in the latest nationwide program evaluations in all academic disciplines, conducted by Joongang Daily News. Dept. of Mathematics (top 15.9%) and Biotechnological Chemical Engineering also garnered high marks in the evaluation.

The Computational Statistics program earned the highest ranking in retention of the undergraduates, second highest in faculty publications in SCI journals and extramural research funding; both Jeju-NU and Seoul-NU Dept. of Computational Statistics came up with the same ranking. A 70% employment of the department graduates was commended by the evaluation. Dept. Chair Lee commented that the high marks in various evaluative categories resulted from inter-departmental collaborations involving computational statistics and other disciplines such as IT area.
