With the increase of foreign students in Jeju-NU, the number of Chinese students is also rising fast. How to effectively coordinate a group of nearly 400 Chinese students has become a problem.

Chinese student activists have actively created the Chinese Students’ Union (CSU) since 2008. They exist to help students' daily life with a low-key way. In order to better help the foreign students in Jeju-NU, Jeju-NU International Students Organization (JISO) was certified by the International Exchange Center in 2009. JISO promised to organize regular activities and try to strengthen ties with foreign students in Jeju-NU, but they did not achieve the desired effect because of the constraints of the language barrier. At the same time, the Chinese Students’ Union was also difficult to self-reform and innovation.

Because there is no provision of activities funds, CSU is difficult to make substantive help for 400 Chinese students. Feng Kai(President of the CSU, Trade, 3) said, “We had applied for activities funds to the International Exchange Center, but because JISO already exists, we were politely refused. Then we would like to communicate with Jeju-NU Students Organization, so they would create more opportunities for us; but often they are only very positive during election publicity. After the election is over it is as if they have forgotten what they had promised.” Also he added, “The 2013 Student Council candidates also pledged to help Chinese students to better integrate into the life in Jeju-NU, and actively organize activities between the two countries’ students. Although they have not officially invited us until now, I would prefer to believe them.”

In order to be able to secure the recognition of the international exchange center, Feng Kai decided to streamline and adjust internal staff. “We could not be recognized, because we really not do well enough. I am prepared to adjust the internal staff, improve work efficiency; intensify propaganda and make more Chinese students aware of the meaning of our existence.” As Feng Kai said, including Chinese students, not many people know about the existence of CSU. The lack of financial support is the reason why the CSU cannot engage in activities; but if they can really try hard to make some changes, the Chinese Students’ Union could be easily recognized by the school.
